Testimonials from Group and Community Leaders.
Northwest Chapter AITP | Culminis
Every attendee at our Northwest Chapter AITP meetings knows about Culminis – mainly from your MS Software giveaways.
Please keep us in mind and send any and all goodies to our Chapter. We love door prizes.
Jim Clark President, NW Chapter AITP
| Thanks! | Dutch Messaging & Collaboration User Group (DMCUG) "Culminis provided us with a lot of support for starting up the community. The templates available were of great help, and also the continuing support, often on a daily basis, has been excellent."
Steven van Houttum, Leader Microsoft Certified Trainer | Thank You | We recently analyzed the activity of the two users group we run - ITBoard and Romanian SQL Server User Group. Looking back to 2005 the best decision we took was to join Culminis. We took advantage of everything that Culminis has to offer from Leader's Portal, Webcasts, Training Materials, SQL Server 2005 Launch Event to Culminis Exchange Support Network. The results were great. We increased three times the number of registered members; we received positive feedback from our members and managed to get new sponsors for our events.
We also had a chance to participate in the Culminis Community Leader Summit and learn from other group leaders how to improve our services. We look forward to 2006 a year with great events to happen like Windows 2003 R2 Launch or Office 12 Launch that will give us the opportunity to work closely with Culminis.
Thank you! Cristian Lefter, SQL Server MVP | President, Sacramento Valley Chapter | I just wanted to express my appreciation for the support our Chapter has received from Culminis over the past year. In particular, I'd like to recognize Lani Fraizer and John Paul Parker -- both of whom have contributed to the success of our Chapter.
When Lani first approached us on the idea of a partnership with Culminis, our Chapter really didn't have means for a "partnership". Of course, our Chapter had sponsors, but a partnership was a new concept that we had to work out. I had the opportunity of exploring our partnership when Culminis invited us to partner at an "SQL Roadshow" in San Francisco. While I wasn't able to take full advantage of the presentations, I did make new contacts -- even some who were from back home in Sacramento. That made me realize there are many groups in Sacramento that should be working together rather than competing for attention. The experience gave me an understanding of what Culminis is all about -- "Bringing IT Together".
From a less philosophical perspective, our Chapter has benefited by having a reliable source of raffle items for our monthly meetings -- and real software, not just shirts and coffee cups. Even though our Chapter had to work through leadership and scheduling changes, members now look-forward to chapter meetings. Having something fun, like a raffle, helped boost member morale, as well as meeting attendance. While this year has been chaotic for ISSA Sacramento, contributions from Culminis provided that added incentive for our members to actively seek out where we were meeting and what we were presenting.
Culminis was a great deal of help when it came down to our annual Symposium. Planning a 3-day symposium is no easy feat. Lani energized our advertising campaign when she came on board with our planning committee. From a near stand-still, our advertising reached commercial, industry and academic markets we didn't even know we had. Lani and John Paul also came through with an awesome speaker - Kai Axford of Microsoft - who discussed "Security in Microsoft SQL Server 2005". John Paul came through with even more give-aways that have been so popular all year long. Culminis helped make our Symposium very successful.
Overall, a partnership with Culminis has worked out extremely well for our Chapter. I also understand that other local professional associations are following our lead, for example the Microsoft Project Association. I hope we can both continue to benefit from a long-lasting partnership with Culminis.
Thank you so very much.
Best regards,
Dean Hipwell, CISSP President, Sacramento Valley Chapter Information Systems Security Association | SQL Launch, Orlando, FL - Vlad Mazek | The following testimonial was taken from Vlad Mazek’s (Orlando IT Pro, Orlando SBS User Group) blog site where you will find pictures and other information from the Orlando IT Pros’ participation at the SQL launch ( http://www.vladville.com).
Orlando IT Pro association was recently invited by Culminis to participate in the regional launch of Microsoft SQL 2005, Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft Biztalk. We were the only town in Florida to hold the launch and consequently had over 2000 people register for the event at the Orange County and Convention Center in beautiful Orlando, Florida.
Because we had a highly successful in-group launch of SQL Server 2005 and we participated in another event with Culminis related to SQL 2005 (Tampa launch hosted by Windows IT Pro magazine) we were invited by Culminis to be a part of the launch. Culminis really took great care of us from the planning to scheduling and getting everything we needed – power, network, signs, etc. We had a central point of contact in John-Paul Parker who arranged and managed everything for us. All we were responsible for coming to the event, there was no hidden agenda of having to promote the event or participate in any other way (which we did anyhow because it turned out to be highly valuable to our members).
Microsoft provided tables to other organizations (PASS, .NET group, etc) but in past the system administrator / infrastructure IT Pro was not represented at all. Culminis really helped us with that and from what I was able to tell almost everyone there was at least a system administrator, some were even developers. Such is the nature of the database admin, you have to be both. Needless to say, we were the poorest financially backed group there – Where we gave away cheap candy the INETA sponsored group (which even had the local Developer Evangelist present) was inviting attendees to a skybox after-party dinner at the nearby TGI Friday's.
Again, Culminis really hooked us up. We had the best table in the house, directly in front of the entrance to the vendor hall and lunch area. It was obvious Microsoft had spent a ton of money on this event as did all the vendors. I felt slightly bad that we had gotten such a prime spot but I'll take it considering such a small budget and all the great stuff Orlando IT Pro does to support Microsoft products at absolutely no cost to Microsoft.
Never pin sales people against IT professionals at a tech event. You won't sell, you won't close, you'll just embarrass yourself by getting a bunch of swag bandits looking for a cool gadget to take home as a prize. We were successful because we were only fishing for people that may be interested in what we do. We were not selling anything, we didn't care what the people that talked to us did, and we didn't try to get any kind of a survey out of them. Basically we just gave away candy and chatted with the friendly folks while they were in the line. There is only so many times you can say "Sign up for our IT Pro group" so it takes some wit and humor but we made it through all the swag.
I'm still going through the web site signups and follow-ups (because an overwhelming majority of people were from north and south of us) but we got a ton of names and raised interest for both our user group and Microsoft SBS. For relatively little that Microsoft gave up to have this table not go to a vendor they got over a dozen passionate people to stand and talk about SBS for several hours for absolutely nothing. No T&E, no swag, nothing. Not just that, but we gave away trial Microsoft products, used Microsoft materials and explained why they should be interested in Microsoft solutions for small business. We reached over 2,000 people who now have another venue of support to rely on, another free marketing outlet that local Microsoft PAM/SMS&P/TS2 sales channel can hit at absolutely no expense.

| Welcome Kit 2 | The IT User group I belong to ( www.witpro.ca) recently became a Culminis member. Wow, the initial package we received from them was full of great FREE stuff including a lot of giveaways we can use to attract and build our membership base. If you run an IT User group I'd recommend getting on board with Culminis. - Rodney Buike, MVP Windows Server - Directory Services http://thelazyadmin.com | SQL Launch, Dallas, TX - Russell Clements | Please allow me to thank you, and your team for the FANTASTIC job of supporting our group. Our participation in the recent Dallas Launch Event for SQL Server 2005 / Visual Studio 2005 / BizTalk 2006 was a HUGE SUCCESS!! We were able to distribute several hundred fliers to potential members and to get the word out about our organization. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I also wanted to thank you for the pizza coupons. We usually collect $5 from everyone that wants to order pizza for the night. When we did the event in December, we still charged $5 and used the proceeds to pay for the launch event. This was a FANTASTIC tool for the group. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
We gave away the software at the December meeting by random drawing. With several new people in attendance, it made a really big hit. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! After the meeting, I had one of the winners ask me to convey to "those Culminis people" his thanks for having won the Office 2003 Professional. He was very excited and quite pleased. I'm sorry you don't get a chance to see the happiness that your work can bring to so many people. Our group will gladly participate in the R2 release. There are not many, but there are some who use servers as member servers in an SBS environment, and some of our other members also have very large clients who don't use SBS at all. We will save the two kits (SQL 2005 and the R2) and do a R2 SBS bash and use it all. Thank you again for your fantastic support of our group. It is a pleasure to be associated with Culminis. I appreciate it very much.

| SQL Launch, Orlando, FL - Frank Clark | Vlad {Mazek, Orlando SBS} can probably recount the experience that many of us have had. I wish we had prepared 1500 pieces. I got the word that here in Denver, despite the snow storm; we had over 2800 attendees at the SQL server launch. Our table was positioned right in the first cluster of tables -- right on the foot path of 80% of attendees who entered the Community Hall. Sounds like Vlad had a similar table. As far as what was provide by MS and Culminis... A launch package for the group. Possible funding for the group if 25 members of the group attended. Training for the group coordinator. A table in an ideal spot with Internet and power -- probably the highest priced tables in the house -- with a nice big sign so you couldn't miss who we were. The opportunity to be at the show that other local groups had tried to get into and told space wasn't available. Culminis absolutely rocks. They have the interests of the groups, for the groups and by the groups. From all indications Culminis has not shown that they have any hidden agendas have been friendly and honest while providing an open dialog and understanding on many issues. We have had invites and other things that cost exhibitors and other companies big money, or just can't be had. For those of you that haven't listened to what Ron had to say have done yourself and huge disservice. I’m hoping Vlad had done what I wanted to do and would have done if I knew the numbers. Techies and others are drawn by pretty stuff or free things to fill the gullet. Offer them those two things draws them into the table from that point people want engaging people - someone that will talk to them in a pleasant manor answer their questions, provide them tidbits of information, and a way to connect with other geeks to solve common problems or just for a sense of community. If you do this in a manor that people feel doesn't waste there time or resources they will at least come. From that point on the meetings and how they are conducted is what keeps them coming back. Got to have a good consistent message(s) presented in a decent format to keep people interested, engaged, and coming back for more.
- Frank Clark | User Group Testimonial | Thank you to the Culminis EMEA team, with their help and dedication and the support of all of Culminis, it has helped our group grow and to reach out further into the community, offer us greater resources, and access to speakers then we ever could have hoped for on our own, especially in such a short time.
Thank you for all your help, it is truly appreciated.
| Hands-on Lab | I recently attended the Active Directory hands-on lab and it was excellent. The instructor, George Clay, was excellent. Part of what made him so good as a trainer is that he also had real world experience. I heard many comments from other attendees that were also impressed with the lab. If all of the New Horizons instructors have similar expertise and backgrounds, then this is indeed a certification resource that NTPCUG members should look at. Thanks again for providing this opportunity to NTPCUG members.

*A note from Culminis: This user group reached 71 members by the beginning of May 2005, making them surpass their membership goals. | Table at TechNet Briefing | The facilities were very nice - a movie theater with stadium seating. Kevin Remde was all set for us when we arrived and very knowledgeable of AITP. We received a great table right out in the lobby at the entrance of both presentations so we even had people come up to us from the small business presentation. For the TechNet Briefing, we (AITP) gave away Windows 2003 Server (which Culminis had sent us as part of the welcome kit) and Kevin even helped collect business cards for the drawing. He was very good to work with. I'd do it again. [response to using the Culminis opportunity to have a table at a TechNet Briefing]

| Culminis Invite | We talked with several attendees and vendors. One attendee provided an excellent story for the SRCCC. I'm going to invite him to our Symposium -- paid travel I think. We had good conversations with 3 other attendees about information security. We had an excellent conversation with a vendor from Hitachi about ISSA and Culminis. We had another with a vendor who might fit into my work at the DMV. In fact, somebody I know from another user group showed up and we had a great conversation. [feedback from attending an event Culminis invited him to]
